2014 is not very optimistic. Since you have experience in a solid OO language in Java, transitioning to another OO based language that is syntactically different should not take the better part of two 2 years. Additionally, sure you may have to sell yourself out for $5 an hour to START.... but once you've established yourself with a reputation on a site then you can charge more and you will get more. It's not your price that's killing you right now, it's your total lack of work history on the sites.

Also, try kijiji / craigslist for "computer gigs".....

Damn, no < here in the Comments. So I mean:
Switch line 253 (echo '...div...';) with line 252 (echo ' ... a ... ';)
"..." is a
abbreviation for the signs you see is this lines < and >
Explanation first close the div and then close the /a.

I validated your plugin with http://validator.w3.org/
And two things are wrong in your lastfm.php:
First: switch line 252 ( echo '</div>'; ) with line 253 ( echo ''; )
Second fix the typo in line 247 and line 249: it is height not heigth.

nope, I think you're familliar with ftp, just open your ftp and locate the lastfm.css under wp-content/plugins/lastfm-rps directory and look once into it. then you'll understand what is what. it's simply plain english :) .lastfm-blabla-title includes the visual settings between the { } only affecting the title for example. margin-right means the distance beetween its container's right and the element's right edge. when you lower the value, the closer it gets. it accepts negative values too. (eg. -10px) ;)

ya I noticed that with the new layout especially. Probably tinker around with it when I get a mo, I'm not a designer in any stretch of the word, but it should be too difficult once I find the css control that handles that box.

yea I just saw it when I got to your homepage that I never had done it before :) and for reading your blog, I'm just tracking back my name ;) And the rarity of readers thing, yea lately no one comments on my blog and it disturbs me too..

maybe you should play with your lastfm.css file to keep the images a bit away from the texts. It'll look better IMHO.
